TRIPLE CROWN NATIONAL BOOK AWARD PROGRAM

The Triple Crown National Book Award Program was established to provide parents, teachers, and students with an annual list of high-quality books that feature positive, uplifting themes and inspiring characters.  Students vote nationwide from participating Christian schools to select the award-winning book from each category.  The TWCA library promotes these books yearly with various reading incentives. 

 CHILDREN’S GALLERY BOOKS K-2nd

This list features 10 new titles each year for readers in the K--2nd grades.     Mrs. Lunsford reads these titles during library time beginning in January.  As a culminating activity, students vote for their favorite book at a reading celebration party.

 CHILDREN'S CROWN BOOKS (3rd--5th) http://www.childrenscrownaward.org/crown.htm                                         

This list features 20 new titles each year for readers in the 3rd--5th grades. Students read these books independently; they are available for check-out from the TWCA library and are also available at the public library. To receive credit for reading a book, a student must successfully pass a short quiz on the TWCA library computer.

  • Read 5 books: Earn a gift certificate to the library store.
  • Read 8 books: Earn a gift certificate to the library store plus attend pizza lunch/voting party.
  • Read 15 books: All of the above plus earn an additional gift certificate
  • Read 20 books: All of the above plus earn a medal on Award’s Day!

LAMPLIGHTER BOOKS (6th--8th)

This list features 10 new titles each year for readers in the 6th--8th grades. Students read these books independently; they are available for check-out from the TWCA library and are also available at the public library. To receive credit for reading a book, a student must successfully pass a short quiz on the TWCA library computer.

  • Read 3 books: Attend voting party/pizza lunch
  • Read 6 books: Attend voting party above plus earn a gift certificate to the library store
  • Read 10 books: All of the above plus earn a medal on Award’s Day!

 

               TWCA SUMMER READING LISTS                    These books are chosen by the classroom teachers to help students maintain their reading skills and to support the curriculum of the forthcoming school year.  Students should read from the list of the grade they will be entering:

ROBERT F. SIBERT INFORMATIONAL BOOK MEDAL, 2001--Present          The Robert F. CHILDREN'S NOTABLE LISTS                                                                    Each year the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) identifies the best of the best in children's books, recordings, videos, and computer software.

BEST BOOKS FOR YOUNG ADULTS                                                              The Best Books for Young Adults committee each year selects and annotates a list of significant adult and young adult books, as well as chooses a list of top ten titles from the full list.
